Patriots Trade Jamie Collins To Browns

Oct 31, 2016 5:55 PM

The New England Patriots have traded linebacker Jamie Collins to the Cleveland Browns for a draft pick.

The trade is for a third-round compensatory pick if the Browns are awarded one. If the Browns don't get that pick from the league, the trade is for a fourth-round pick, the source said.

"In the end, we did what we thought was best for the football team. There are a lot of things to take into consideration. I'm sure we could bring up a lot of points to talk about, but in the end, that's really the bottom line," Bill Belichick said on sports radio WEEI when asked about the trade.

Collins' four-year rookie contract will expire after the season, and he was at one point asking for what one league source described to ESPN's Adam Schefter as "Von Miller money."

Jerry Jones: Dak Prescott Will Start Against Browns

Nov 1, 2016 9:48 AM

Dak Prescott will start for the Dallas Cowboys against the Cleveland Browns next week.

"Tony's [Romo] not ready to play," Jerry Jones said after the Cowboys defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in overtime on Sunday night.

Tony Romo has had one limited practice since suffering a compression fracture in his back Aug. 25 against the Seattle Seahawks, throwing in the scout-team 7-on-7 drills.

Romo should do more in practice this week.

"That's subject to Jason Garrett making the decision, but as far as the health issue is concerned of Tony, there's no need in pushing it that fast," Jones said of a possible return to game action this week. "That's more about Tony's health than any of the other issues we want to all give."

Michael Bennett Undergoes Surgery, Could Sign Extension With Seahawks

Oct 30, 2016 4:38 PM

Michael Bennett will miss between two and three weeks following surgery for a cartilage issue. Bennett has been tremendously durable during his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks.

Long considered one of the most undervalued players in the NFL, Bennett is currently playing on the four-year, $32 million deal he signed back in 2014.

Bennett and the Seahawks could discuss an extension in the coming weeks.

Josh Gordon has been released from his rehab facility in New Hampshire where he spent the past 30 days.

It is said to be the most intensive treatment that he has gone through, and Gordon is doing "a lot better," one source said.

Gordon is now waiting for the NFL to determine whether he can rejoin the Cleveland Browns. For the time being, Gordon remains suspended, and it's unclear whether the league plans to reinstate him.

The Browns have moved on from Gordon and are looking to trade him.

Jaguars Fire Offensive Coordinator Greg Olson

Oct 29, 2016 6:12 PM

The Jacksonville Jaguars have fired offensive coordinator Greg Olson.

Quarterbacks coach Nathaniel Hackett will take over playcalling duties. He previously served as the offensive coordinator with Buffalo in 2013-14 under head coach Doug Marrone, who is now the Jaguars' offensive line coach.

"Greg was a tremendous asset and always put all of his effort in doing everything he can to help in his players' improvement," Gus Bradley said in a statement. "He did some great things with our offense over the past two seasons, and for that, we are very appreciative.

"After a thorough evaluation, I came to the conclusion that with the direction that our offense was headed, it was best to make a change moving forward."

Vikings, Brad Childress Deny Claim Of Past Bounty System

Oct 28, 2016 8:06 AM

The Minnesota Vikings and former coach Brad Childress have denied allegations that the team had a bounty system in 2008-09 that was similar to the one allegedly run by the New Orleans Saints.

Former Vikings offensive lineman Artis Hicks made the claims in a new book about Brett Favre by author Jeff Pearlman.

"It was part of the culture," Hicks said, according to an excerpt. "I had coaches start a pot and all the veterans put in an extra $100, $200, and if you hurt someone special, you get the money."

Team team's response: "There is no truth to it."

Childress, who now works as co-offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, said, "I had a great opportunity to coach a lot of great people there, including Artis Hicks, at the Minnesota Vikings. I have too much respect for the Wilf family [and] professional football to have anything to do with a bounty system. I'm going to let it stand at that."

A source close to the team confirmed that Bradley will not be fired. The coach is 14-41 in four seasons.

No Truth To Alshon Jeffery Trade Rumors

Oct 27, 2016 8:47 PM

Don't expect Alshon Jeffery to be moved ahead of the Nov. 1 trade deadline.

There have been no talks between the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles on a trade for Jeffery and reporter Ian Rapoport pointed out that it's "essentially unprecedented" to trade a franchise player because the new team cannot sign the tagged star prior to the start of free agency.
